Persistent popup "Starting Program Requires Approval"

Popup announces that an attenpt is being made to add a program to my startup registry. Program name is "c:\program files\common files\dell\eusw\support.exe l e s\dell\eusw\support.exe... followed by several lines of gibberish". I can't make the popup disappear by pushing either the BLOCK button or the ALLOW button. Neither Norton AV nor Counterspy scans show anything amiss. I can drag the popup to the bottom of the screen, but it's an annoyance. Anybody know what this program is and/or how I get rid of this?

Hi:

That "support.exe" and filepath are legitimate, and refer to a Dell Support Alert add-on called DwlClient. However it is certainly not needed at startup, and probably not needed at all. It sounds like it might be corrupted. Is it listed in your Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs? If so, you should be able to uninstall it there.

Thanx, joe53, but it's not listed. Any other suggestions for getting rid of this?

I don't have this program, so I can't advise from personal experience. A few suggestions:

1). See if it is listed in Start>run>msconfig> startup tab. If so, try unchecking it to disable.

2). See if you can locate the support.exe program via the filepath specified, or via search. Open the program, and there may be an option to disable it from within.

3). Download the freeware startup utility "Startup control panel"  from here: http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
Instructions for its use are at that link. You might be able to disable it or delete it.

4). I *think* that your troublesome program was part of the old Dell Support version 2.x.  Various ways of removing this version are listed here: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?dn=1092618&l=en&langid=1&c=us&cs=19&s=dhs
