personal finances software

I've used Quicken since version 1.0 for Windows (about 10 years) and really like it. Yes, I know it's what everybody else uses, but it's got a nice interface and very simple to use. I use Turbotax as well, so every other year, I get the free Quicken upgrade that comes with TurboTax.

Both Quicken and Money do the same things in virtually the same way.  If you have used Money, there is no real reason to change.  I first used Money 95 which was not Y2K compliant, then changed to various versions of Quicken because of a software glitch in Money 99, and finally updated to the 2004 version of Quicken.  This avoids some irritations that formerly were present in earlier versions.  The more recent versions of either program are necessary if you wish to do direct downloads from credit card and banking sites, something to consider because of the recent changes in banking procedures regarding returning cancelled checks.   My take on the software is; Money has more intuitive menus and commands, while Quicken does more things and does them better but has confusing navigation and commands.  Take your choice.

Well this goes for a tie vote, I go for Quicken, been using it for a long time. My daughter on the other hand likes Money. Go figure, she's a Cubs fan, I'm a Sox. It's possible she just likes being the opposite. :smileyvery-happy:

FWIW, I've been a QuickBooks (Quicken's big brother) user for some years and my version is getting as bit long in the tooth, so thought about changing to Quicken XG as it's much cheaper and I don't need all the bells and whistles of QuickBooks. However, I was put off by the reviews of the UK version on this site - there seem to be a lot of unhappy users out there. Perhaps the US version is different?

lain, I use Quicken 2004.  Managing some editing of accounts is difficult because of confusing menus.  Check out the US version at www.cnet.com .  Check out product reviews.  I don't know if it is possible to set the US versions for for the proper currencies..

Thanks for that - I don't think the US versions are usable in the UK - VAT and other reports would be different, I think. Still, I'll read the reviews for comparison.
