Personal name showing up in filepaths! Please Help??

Hi... when I got my new Dell about a year ago, my ISP set it all up for me... and typed my REAL NAME in it when doing so... this is not the Computer Name, and I have tried to go in and change the "User Name" with little tweak programs I got from this site, but it only wants to change my Computer's name.

Here is what my filepaths look like (substituting "MyRealName" for my real name):

C:\Documents and Settings\MyRealName\All My Junk\Brad Pitt

____________________________________________________________

How can I change this??   I did not know this person typed in my real name!

I hope someone can please help me... new to this board, but I have searched through hours of forums and this one too trying to find my own answer... nothing worked... And when I go to My Documents, a folder is there with my real name on it, and I can't change it because it says I can't change a Windows System folder name.   I did go into the Registry once and found that folder in there somewhere deep in the abyss... I tried to change the name in there, and it wouldn't do it, so I just left, Thanking the Gods I hadn't done any damage somehow!  LOL  I haven't gone back to the Registry because it is too deep for someone who does not know what they are doing!

Wishing you a happy day

Sincerely,  suomigirl --------------------

To resolve this you will need to create a new user account in Windows XP.

C:\Documents and Settings\MyRealName\All My Junk\Brad Pitt will then change to

C:\Documents and Settings\YourSecretName

This is a profile setting/user account name issue and can be fixed with a new user account

You can then use the file and settings transfer wizard and save it to the C:\ and then when you log into the new user account you can import the file and settings transfer wizard then when you are ready too, if you want. you may go into the user accounts and delete that user name and the  settings if you want too.

You can also right click on "Your Name" folder and rename it. In Control Panel, User Accts, you can change the User name.

The above will only change the Logon name & "My Computer"  user/Documents Folder name.
If you want to change the name shown by
C:\Documents and Settings\username

Logon as Default Administrator
(use Safe Mode for Home & normal Mode for Pro)
Do a Search Advanced for old user name , ie:  say called TOM
& change Folder  TOM name to   NewAccountName   in Folder TOM;
ie :    C:\Documents and Settings\TOM

then use Regedit to navigate to HKEY
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
& select HKEY below which shows;
"ProfileImagePath"       %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\TOM
& change to  %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\NewAccountName    as above.

You can see the Folder name being used at present by right click on Start button & select  "Explore"
the name used is the main Folder name.
If you use "User Accounts" to change name it doesn't change the main Folder name unless you do the above.
