photoshop measuring memory problem

Hello, when I open up photoshop the splash screen pops up as usual and then right after the "measuring memory" part on the splash screen, photoshop closes. Image ready works fine though. I am using windows xp home, and ive got a 256mb of memory.I'm not sure how to fix this. Any help would greatly be appreciated

Jamie, PhotoShop can be frustrating to use at times.  Have you looked at the help section on the Adobe website.  I have found this to be very useful.  One thing you can do is (if you can) open PhotoShop Properties or Preferences, I am not sure which, and add more virtual memory.  You may have to shut down some other programs and see if that makes a difference.  256 MB may not be enough for the latest editions of PhotoShop and XP.  Consider adding an additional memory card.  This is easy to do.
