please help - application or DLL not valid Windows image

This is my story and I am sticking to it:emotion-2:

I did some windows updates and some java updates.  Shutdown and restarted....

went thru Dell splash screen with no trouble.  Started windows splash screen - got the black screen with box...

winlogon.exe - Bad Image

         "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\imm32.dll is not a valid winows image.  please check this against your installation diskette."

Pressed enter - went to desktop screen with no icons, no start menu, nothing but another box....

winlogon.exe - Bad Image

          "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\IMM32.DLL is not a valid winows image.  please check this against your installation diskette."

Clicked ok - got next box.....

services.exe - Bad Image

          "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\imm32.dll is not a valid winows image.  please check this against your installation diskette."

Clicked ok- got next box.....

services.exe - Bad Image

         "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\IMM32.DLL is not a valid winows image.  please check this against your installation diskette."

then....

lsass.exe - Bad Image

          "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\IMM32.DLL is not a valid winows image.  please check this against your installation diskette."

then....

lsass.exe - Bad Image

          "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\imm32.dll is not a valid winows image.  please check this against your installation diskette."

Clicked ok and got to windows entry screen.....

userinit.exe - Bad Image

          "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\IMM32.DLL is not a valid winows image.  please check this against your installation diskette."

Clicked ok and got .....

userinit.exe - Bad Image

          "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\imm32.dll is not a valid winows image.  please check this against your installation diskette."

Then....

explorer.EXE - Bad Image

          "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\IMM32.DLL is not a valid winows image.  please check this against your installation diskette."

And finally.....

explorer.EXE - Bad Image

          ""The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\imm32.dll is not a valid winows image.  please check this against your installation diskette."

Cllicked ok and after and 3 minute wait, got the My Documents window.

Could navigate around a bit from that point, but am unable to access the internet.

Does anyone have any suggestions????

My restore disks are at my home in Wisconsin while myself and my computer are wintering in Kentucky and I have no way of getting my disks.  I know.....  was really stupid....

OS is WindowsXP

 Can someone please give me some pointers....  is it neccessary for me to use the repair/recovery disk?
