thanks for your help, but i can't get into setup, i have been pressing f2, i just goes to thw windows xp screen, i have been trying to boot up from a windows xp cd, but it's not working, any other ideas.
Try Safe Mode then System Restore or Last..Good from Advanced menu.
Enter Advanced menu by tapping F8 during startup untill Advanced menu is displayed then use Arrow keys to select Safe Mode or Last...Good.

Edit:
Changed F2 to F8 , sorry for wrong info.

Tap F8 to get into safe mode. Start system restore
Start your computer to Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
NOTE: You must log on as the administrator or a user that has administrator rights.
At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER.
Follow the instructions on the screen to begin restoring your computer to a previous, functional state.
If that doesn't work reboot and tap F2 to get into the bios and change the PC to boot from CD. Save and exit. You can try a repair first but with no backup this is iffy.
Did you have the computers running when you hooked them up together? Geez I hope it isn't a hardware problem probably not if you can boot it.

it boots up to windows xp, with no log in name?
If it boots up to Welcome Screen try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys together twice This should show classic Logon box so try entering your username & password.
If you have XP Pro you can enter Administrator & blank password Unless you have set default Administrator Password. ---------------- Are you having this problem with your Laptop or Desktop. ? Since you have been pressing F2 (my mistake should have been F8) & it didn't show BIOS menu perhaps you Keyboard is dead. Test Keyboard by pressing "Caps Lock" , it should light a LED.
If the problem is with a Desktop check the Keyboard connector.
