Power DVD Program

When I downloaded ann upgrade I received the following error message

"An error has occured

Either your powerdvd version is outdated or your system dsoes not have a previous version of PowerDVD installed. Patch installation will abort."

I do have Power DVD 4.0 installed-and it does work. This version is the latest.

Suggestions appreciated.

I am receiving the same error with the same version (4.0).  Funny thing is I just formated my harddrive.  Powerdvd is now giving me an "internal error" and then closes.  I am forced to use windows media player 9 to play my dvd's now.  Anyone now how to solve the problem?  I really like powerdvd.

In spite of the error message I can play DVDs without problems. But I would still like to install this upgrade.

Tried to follow your suggestion. Opened Power DVD program. Right clicked on open area of screen. Saw and clicked on configuration. When this window came up I did not find a tab "Video"  ????

Once you click on the configuration button it is under the "General" tab (which is the first one that is open).

Under the general tab I found hardware accelerator. I unchecked and then tried to download and install the oatch. Got the same error message.

I give up. My DVD seems to operate just fine without this patch. You are probably correct in the statement you posted. Thanks

That's because the link provided was completely wrong.  You are getting an error when you install the patch;  the link tells you to install the patch in order to resolve a different error.  I have no idea why anyone would offer that link as a resolution to this problem.

I'm also unable to install this patch;  I wonder if it has to do with OEM vs. retail versions?

Don't know if you guys care anymore. I just went through the same thing and there is a difference between the version 4.0.13 that ships with Dell and version 4 from Cyberlink.  You need to pay $29.95 to upgrade from the OEM version to the "true" version 4 of PowerDVD.  You can find it on there website.

Don't need the update for my use of the program. But appreciate your post-at least I have some understanding of the [problem I ran ointo.

I can tell you lot whats wrong with the PowerDVD and why the patches/updates dont work. I had exactly the same problem as the guy who started this thread.

I also, SUPPOSEDLY, have v 4.0 (4.0.12 to be exact) -  the cd says its v4.0, the readme file located within the software says it is, but you actually right click on the powerdvd icon and get its version, and it says (on mine anyway) 3.0.2005, SO as such I actually have version 3.0. and that is why when you tried to update your supposed v4.0 with the patch/update it said that the version was outdated. Have got in contact with the customer care lot by email requesting a real PowerDVD V4.0 - as per my original order and as what was denoted on my invoice

FWIW I have version PowerDVD XP, shows up as 4.0 on the "about" screen.  It did not come preinstalled on my Dell--it was bundled with a Samsung drive I bought later.  The patch does not work--I get the error message about not having PDVD installed.  I suspect the patch only works with retail versions of the software.

Clicking on the icon shows I have version 4.0.10 installed.
