Prefetch Folder Change Needed

Question

[After a successfully downloaded update to my Nero 6 program did NOT successfully install] I went to the Windows/Prefetch Folder and I iInadvertently (stupidly) I selected the 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' for a Nero.exe update program there in the Windows/Prefetch Folder. In doing so, it changed all the other program (non-Nero related) files in the folder to the one selected (if you must ask, 'Nero Burning Rom') and In doing so, it changed the icons for each program in the folder to that of Nero Burning Rom. I'm not concerned about the icon, as much as the fact that I didn't realize at the time that I selected  the 'Always use the ....[Nero Burning Rom] program' to open all pf files in the folder. Two questions: 1) Since I've been using Windows XP Home on this Dell 3000 for a year without problems, do I need the files in the Prefetch Folder now? 2) If I do need them, how can I 'undo/change/deselect' the check box in which I selected open this kind of file (presumably all pf files) with that Nero Burning Rom? Normally, I guess, a exe update program for any already operating software typically goes to the Prefetch Folder with a pf extension. I guess a real concern that I have is for future updates from different programs that should not automatically be opened (and they won't be) with the Nero Burning Rom program. Hope this makes sense and is easily fixed with out complications. Thanks for any advice. Bob

berzorkm, You can change the setting you made after you empty the folder. It will be regenerated. See this.

Thanks, as always for the insightful advice. Can I change the 'Always open this folder' settings for the Prefetch folder without going into the reedit registry?

Yes, indeeed files regenerate in the Prefetch Folder. But I'm not clear about changing the settings, so that new files regenerated don't have the Nero Burn Rom icon. May be it doesn't matter because typicially I have no need to go to the folder and click on a file program.

Should I just leave it alone or should I be concerned about the fact that regenerated programs in the folder when opened automatically do so with the Nero Burn Rom program. Again, I know that I created the setting to do so, but the real question is how can I undo/uncreate/delecte the action that causes it to happen?
