Private File Access Problems

Hi My hard drive recently went haywire so I have had to install XP on a brand new drive on my 8200. In order to recover some of the data off the old drive, I have set it up as a slave to the new one. I can see and copy over most folders etc., but any ones that I had made private give me an Access is Denied notification. I have tried researching this problem and people have suggested changing ownership of the folders by going into the Security tab, then Advanced, then Owner, etc etc. The problem is there is no Security tab under Properties with these folders, only Sharing, and if I try to share the folder I am given a similar knock-back. I have also looked to turn off Simple File Sharing but I can't do that either it seems. Please help, I really need to be able recover this stuff!

What a coincidence: The very first message I found on the XP board was jerkstar's very similar problem.

I pulled my HD from my old laptop (I8100) and am now using it as an external to my new one (I8600). The old one had XP Pro, the new one XP Home. Both use NTFS. Both use the same log-in password.

I can read all the files on the external drive except the personal ones (the ones I most want). I get the message â€œDocuments and Settings\Richard is not accessible".

Does anyone know how to accesss these files?
