Problem in XP reinstallation

Hello~

I just brought my dasktop, Dimension E520 with media center edition.
Three ways have been working on upgrade the system to XP Profressional, but all are false.
1)
I got XP-Pro from student version not from DELL. I upgraded the system on the media center edition, The error message always shows my product key is wrong, even it works on the my old laptop.
2)I used student version to boot the computer. When the computer reading the data from the CD, a blue screen always shows up. The error message tell me to check my hardware, do virous checking, or chkdsk blah balh... However, I can use student version to reboot my laptop. There is no problem at all.
3) I know Dell has some "hiden" partition space for recover installation CD.
I try to clean up the system, and install XP professional in computer, but a blue screen still always shows up.
Colud somebody please tell me how should I do? I want that the PC can be more flexibile to install any OS I need.
Thank you very mcuh.
Best,
-mph

Here is a link on how to install XP from scratch.  The main problem most people have seems to be from not booting to the install CD.

 Hi,

what error code does the blue screen give? This happens most of the times if the ram is busted. did you delete all the partitions on the dell hard drive? i wouldnt suggest to do so it takes only a few MB and can effectively test all the h/w. if you have not deleted the partition run a test on memory. if you have call dellsupport and arrange for a cd to be sent to run the test.

mph,

Use the link Jeff gave you. Denny`s page has been used hundreds of times with great success. You will not be disappointed.

Sincerely,
Fox
