The usual Windows XP viewer is the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer", if you don't have another program set. If you want to set the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer as the default, got to any panel, such as the Windows Explorer, click on Tools then Folder Options then File Types and you can set the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer as the default.
Running XP but a search finds no "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" and neither MS Explorer nor Firefox have Folder Options in Tools. The FOlder options selection comes up in other system tools such as with the serch window - but there is no mention of viewers. Any other suggestions?
You have to use the "Windows Explorer" to get to the tools, not a browser.
If the Windows Picture and Fax viewer is not installed you can reinstall it from the Control Panel Add/remove software. You will need the Windows XP install CD.
I am having the same problem. I suddenly can no longer open jpeg's or gif's received in my Outlook Express. It tell me to go to Folder Options and set an association for this file type. Of course, I already have an association set for both (which in my case is Kodak Easy Share viewer). If I save the attachment, then I can open it no problem. This began after I downloaded MS monthly securtiy updates (not sure if it was Sept or Oct because I downloaded them both at the same time). Help???
I had the same thought - I already have associations set for both as well and can view files after they're saved too. When the problem started I verified that I hadn't installed any new programs since I last used the viewer. The only change to my machine was the MS Security updates. I looked on the MS page and there wasn't any mention so I dismissed them as the culprit - now I wonder. I considered changing the associations but have to get to a break in my work before I start messing around. WIll advise if that works.
Hey. Guess it didn't work for you. I posted a request for help on this in the MS OutLook Express Newsgroup. It didn't solve it for me, but you may want to check it out. One of these answers may work for you.
