Problem registering Windows XP
I'm using a new Dimension 4600 with Intel(R) 537EP V9xDF PCI modem. Ran the registration wizard to register the Windows XP and filled in all the required info. The last page of the wizard displayed a phone number which would connect and register the product, so I clicked on 'Connect'. After a few seconds a message 'Modem in use or not working' was displayed. The modem was not in use, and the modem works fine (except with this wizard). Any help would be appreciated.

maybe the problem is that your security settings are too high, so the windows update active-x control cannot download and/or run.. try either restoring the default settings in ie/tools/options/security, and on the advanced tab, or add the windows updates website to the "trusted" zone..
maybe your firewall is interfering with the updates..

Set security to the lowest setting, disabled the firewall, still can't access the updates website. Tried to add the site to the 'trusted sites' but got the message 'Sites added to this zone must use the https:// prefix'.
However, I managed to register the XP using the wizard again whilst online.
