Problem upgrading to XP
I have a 4100 and flashed to A11 Bios. PIII 800, 256 mg. Downloaded the upgrade advisor and have tried to run it but it crashes about 2/3 of the way through as it is preparing the report. This happened before I upgraded the Bios from A04. It is still happening with A11. I have the XP disk and tried the upgrade advisor on that and it also crashed at the same point. I then tried to install the XP upgrade without having a report but the installation crashed while it was preparing the files. Since I can't complete the upgrade do you think I will have a problem with a clean install? Is there a fix for this?

It can be upgraded to xp . . I have done it on several 4100's . . the fix is to do a clean install . . . my experience is that it will load all drivers for the system . . be sure and disconnect printers, scanners and any other perif's not internal . . and if you have an internal zip drive, be sure and disconnect it until afrer the install.
A good guide is here
have fun . .wrs

I leave the network connected . . the files and settings wizard on the XP install disc works really well . . I have used it several times and it saves a lot of time setting up the new system. You run it prior to installing XP and save the results to a partition that will not be formated or to removeable media . . once you have XP installed and updated, run it agian to move your files and settings to the new installation . . other than passwords, it will usually copy all perishable data to the new install.
good luck . . wrs

I know my 4100 can be upgraded. I now have ME and what I have been reading that can be the problem. I will disconnect everything before installing XP. What about my cable modem and router? It might be a couple of days before I get ready. I will transfer some files to zip and my portable.
