I am sorry but I think that there is a SERIOUS issue with the ftp.us.dell.com site. I have had enormous trouble trying to download all the latest releases of the E6400 Dell Control Point and System software files for over 2 months. I have tried from three different internet connections here in England and using seevral different PCs. I have even tried download managers. The small files download OK, but the large ones either get slower and slower (even with a continuous PING going) and eventually stop. Other times the 600 MB packages appear to successfuly download , however the package is incomplete as the built in extractor tells me that this is a multidisk zip and asks for the last disk.

Come on Dell please sort yourselves out. The server farm is clearly inadequate to service all these new large packages. I have emailed th hostmaster of the ftp site but have not had any useful feedback.

I am now reporting this as a support issue to the Latitude helpdesk as I have 10 E6400 that have miscellaneous issues owing to the fact that the software shipped with them did not work properly and I now cannot access the only solution which is to acquire the latest versions of this Dell software which is larger than even the bloated Microsoft operating system!

PS - I know that it is not my Internet connections as whilst I have been having all these problems I successfully downloaded the March Technet DVD content and this came down at 800KB/s!!

The http://support.euro.dell.com web site certain works faster, however when one attempts to down load the files one is redirected to the same sorry server farm in Little Rock.  ftp.us.dell.com/app/DELL_CONTROLPOINT-CONNECTION_A14_R214454.EXE .

It IS THIS that is so slow to be unfit for purpose!

Presently that link is downloading at 75 KB/s If I go to Microsoft Technet right now and attempt to download something it downloads at between 650 - 750 KB/s!

So what pray is the matter with the Dell ftp site that it can barely manage the speed of a ISDN channel, and that none of these downloads ever complete successfuly!
