Two issues. First Internet Explorer 7 is a "Beta" release - which means there are some features that can be disabled and there can (and usually is) problems - it is a test version and should not be used on "production" computers or your only computer. There is a list of known issues with I.E. 7 Beta on the Microsoft I.E.7 Beta site - check it out.
Second with AOL, which tends to do things "differently" the I.E.7 can also be the cause of your other problems.
My suggestion would be to uninstall I.E. 7 Beta and go back to your "standard" AOL/I.E.6 configuration and see if that fixes the problems.
Thank you for your quick reply, firebird. Since it was Microsoft who told me to download the 7 version, I thought the bugs had been worked out. I was having a small problem with my 6 version and was told downloading the beta version would fix it.....Am I gullible? Maybe. I was using yahoo mail and downloaded the beta version which started the problem with IE6. They had a link on the new mail to switch back to the old version which I did. I am not terribly tekky so I need to ask, firebird, in my add and remove programs I see the Internet Explorer 7 listed but not IE 6. Does this mean that I will have to uninstall the 7 and then install the 6? I think I may need help if this is the case. Could you give me a few pointers if I should run into problems?
When you uninstall 7 it should restore the I.E. 6 - at least that's what it did for me. Didn't have a problem falling back. I installed the Beta 7, on my "test" PC but decided it wasn't for me - at least not in it's present form so I uninstalled it.
For the Windows media player problem, try in WMP, tools, options, player tab, check 'connect to the internet', click apply, ok.
Personally, I am using IE 7 beta 3 and like it quite well, still a few bugs but generally working fine. The RSS reader is particularly useful (as well as tabbed browsing). My other tabbed browser is Slimbrowser, which also has some nice features that IE 7 lacks (it is an IE based browser); if you want tabbed browsing but revert to IE 6, you could try Slimbrowser (free):
Thanks again firebird. I will keep in mind the OS difference. I am a writer and rely on my computer for research. If it is down,so am I. You have been a great help to me.
All you do is go to the Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. I.E. 7 Beta will be listed and you just uninstall it from there and it will uninstall and restore the I.E.6.
BTW, I didn't have any problems with I.E. 7 Beta - just didn't missed some functions that were not available in the Beta version, that will probably be in the final version. Also, I don't have AOL which presents a whole separate set of problems.
Thank you firebird and JRosenfeld for your speedy replies. I tried the easiest first. My WMP needed to be set to connect to the Internet. I can now hear the videos but, I cannot see them.
Firebird, you said you didn't have any trouble going back to the earlier version of IE. Can you tell me how to do this? I do like the 7 version but, if I continue to have problems I may have to go back.
Thanks JRosenfeld but I found the problem this morning. In an earlier post you suggested I click "Connect to the Internet" in WMP which brought back the sound but no video. I went back and took a second look under the PLAYER tab, clicked "enable picture support for devices" and everything is back to normal. I guess the computer "burped" and knocked the settings out. Hmm...how can you tell I don't have computer savvy?!

For WMP not seeing video: maybe you need a codec?
Depending on the type of streaming file, you may need an additional codec, such as Divx, available free from http://www.divx.com/
If you are willing to give the URL of the site from which you are trying to see the streaming video, I could check it out.
