Problem with Restore feature

I get the same problem, but on my laptop with XP Media Center 2005.

  I found that my Norton Internet Security 2007 is the problem. Norton's web page actually gives a "work around" fix for the problem, shutting off the program to do a restore. But, as often as I try it, I still get the same error until I completely remove Norton from my computer. Then, after I do my system restore,I re-install Norton. This is a time consuming pain. But if I have to restore to an earlier point, that is what I have to go through. I will probably try a different Anti Virus program after my subscription expires.

 

Anyway, if you do not have Norton, maybe it would be worthwhile to do a search on your anti virus program providers web page.

I have Norton 2007 on my computer also.  Sounds like that might be the culprit.

Check your Norton settings. In NIS, Settings>Auto Protect>Configure, click on Miscellaneous in the Advanced Options section and UN Check "Turn on protection for my Norton Product". It's probably this feature that is preventing a successful Restore.

I have Norton 360.  Do you know what I should do to find the correct place to make the changes?

I'm not familiar with 360, but most Norton products have similar interfaces. You must have a "settings" section somewhere where you can customize how 360 works. Perhaps someone else who uses 360 can help?

I have had that problem with two different Norton Products. I now have Norton 360 and found that if you go to the settings. Then to advanced settings you can disable of manually set Norton backup. By turning off the backup feature my windows system restore started working normally. With the feature off at least I only get notified of a windows backup not a windows and a Norton Backup. I know you don't have to uninstall your norton completely. If the above procedure doesn't work just disable norton 360, do the system restore and reenable it after the restore.
