Problem with Updates

Good afternoon, everyone. My laptop equipped with Windows Vista Home Premium, decided that it could not download the 2  recent "important" updates." One of the error codes was: 80070643. When I looked it up, it said it could be caused by a conflict between Microsoft Office 2003 or higher.  That would solve the problem if I did have the latest version of Office, in which I do not. I have Office 2000. Any suggestions for what else I can do to solve the problem? My second error code was: 800704C8. I can't seem to find any resolution for that problem either. Any help or suggestions would be greatly thanked.

All of my updates installed except for the Daylight Savings Time  Zone update, I  received the error 80070643. I ran down the error and even perform the steps to correct the problem, but to no avail. I don' t have any Microsoft Office software installed. I can't even hide this update, I've tried about nine times to install with same results. No big deal I guess, except that this update is waiting to be installed and It will not go away.

Same thing with mine too. It's strange. I'm not even sure how to fix my other update problem either.

On the update page, you will find that you can click on error help or view update history, click on the failed updates and use the links for error identification and  help.

after a great deal of thought, I could not resist, I installed the SP1 update. Took a while, installed 3 compoents 1st, per the instructions, and all worked fine. I had it running for only a few minutes, but all seems well. Oh, this was on an Insprion 6000, 2G memory.
