Problem

I am trying to wipe my comp clean and reinstall windows xp and  all system software.

But to my dismay, there is a small crack in my windows xp reinstallation disc.

Is there any place on dell.com that I can get a copy of it, or provide some kind of product code for a replacement?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Can the disk be read (r-click, explore) at all?

Klendest,

To expand slightly on simpswr's post, any Dell CD of the same edition (Home or Pro)that you are using will work on your system and will be activated upon installation.

Can't be read at all..it is cracked right on the inner circle.

I am trying to whipe my comp clean to clear out any trace of me using it.  I know that even though it appears clean there can be a lot of left over stuff.

The only other way I can think to bypass it is to leave the windows program on, create a new user account and then destroy my former account, uninstall all programs and delete folders, then use the system software disc to reinstall them.

This is assuming records of my use are within the user files and individual program files.

Does this sound valid at all?  I don't want to depend on deductive reasoning alone. I can rationalize anything lol.

You can try this program. It's a bit of overkill (if you use the DOD Standard) but should do what you want:

First, in the future you might try a more descriptive subject for a post...

You cannot get a replacement from Dell unless it's under warranty, and even then they will resist.

Systems shipped after July 15, 2004 came with Symantec PC Restore. This utility restores the computer to an "as-shipped" condition. If you haven't reformatted, repartitioned, or otherwise modified the master boot record, it should work. Click here for instructions about Symantec PC Restore.

If that's not an option for you because your machine is too old, and you don't care about your machine being usable, then Google for "Eraser".
