Problems Updating Dell Toolkit 3.0
HI,
We recently purchase a Dell XPS 8300. Soon after we registered the computer, we received a program from Dell (through an online download) called Dell Toolkit 3.0 or Dell Toolbox 3.0. We cannot remember which name is correct. The Icon for the shortcut was a red toolbox with a Wrench.
This program was very useful for obtaining detailed information about our computer, as well as troubleshooting. It also provided a convenient portal to various Dell web links, including software updates for our particular service tag and mode.
Yesterday, when we launched the program, a window popped up asking whether we wanted to check for available updates to this program. We did so and there was an update available. We allowed the update, and the process appeared to complete normally. However, when we launched the updated program, and attempted to use one of its features (check for updates), nothing happened. We then closed out the program, and received a windows 7 error stating something to the effect that a program had corrupted a file relatiing to the default browser, and windows was correcting (restoring) to the previous default setting.
We attempted to run the udated Dell Toolkit or Toolbox 3.0 again, and had the same problems accessing the (check for updates for your computer) function. Upon closing the program, we received the same windows 7 error message about a corrupt file, and offering to restore to the default browser (Bing, we think).
We assumed the upgraded program was not installed or working properly, so we did a system restore from the point of the updating.
When we then attempted to launch the original Dell Toolkit by clicking on the shortcut icon (Red Toolbox with wrench), we received a windows message that "the program associated with this shortcut no longer exists" "do you want windows to delete the shortcut". which we did.
We are assuming that the upgrading process included the total removal of the previous version, and when we did a system restore, the program was no longer present. We searched our computer and cannot find any traces of this program. (Dell Toolkit 3.0 or Dell Toolbox 3.0) It is possible the program has some other very similiar name.
We have two questions:
1.Has anyone else had problems with the Dell Toolkit or Toolbox 3.0 since updating?
2.Where can we go to redownload and reinstall the program? We searched the Dell website to no avail, and when we called customer support they were unable to find the program?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Dell Support Center 3 is probably what you are looking for. It is not required and you can skip it. Win 7 and the Dell support website has all the tools you need. If you want to download support center, it's on your dell download page under Applications. Be sure to make all the built in safeguards in Win 7--Backup and Restore will guide you to make Recovery disks and backups.
