Problems with Popups, homepage changes, etc

I have encountered many problems with my computer in the past few days.  I am unable to change my homepage in IE.  Even when I try and go in and change it the next time that I open up IE it has changed to come weird search page.  Also I have been getting some strange pop up ads.

Not to mention the fact that a few days ago this huge HTML ad page appeared on my desktop.  When I clicked on the link it had for 'removal instructions' I found that it was just an ad for a company wanting me to buy some of their software.  However, there were no removal instructions to get this thing off my desktop, so I don't know how to get rid of it.

I downloaded a program called Spybot hoping that it could wipe away a lot of the problems.  Only when I ran it there were only 4 bad files that were found.  And once I fixed those problems nothing really happened.  So I haven't really had any effect on any of the problems I am having.

Does anyone know of a program or a possible solution that I could use to get rid of these problems?

Try AdAware.  www.lavasoftusa.com, download it (from PCWorld), install it, open it, update it, run it.

I actually had that and tried to use it, but it didn't really find much that helped.

metman37,

The next step is to download HijackThis, a malware analysis and removal tool, install it as described in this article by ChrisRLG, and submit a log to the expert volunteers in the Virus Information and Removal board for review. Be sure to post the log in a new message, and describe the problem you're experiencing.
