Problems with Sonic MyDVD-Please help!

I downloaded and installed the 6.0 MyDVD deluxe. No issues during installation. But when I click on any tool bar buttons, I am getting error messages like Memory allocation error file info path = C:\ and it points to the Styles folder in Sonic. Every button produces an error message!! (run time error, menu editor is not valid -370003, script error etc). I cannot do anything with the software after paying almost 80 bucks! Please help! I am attaching a screenshot of the error messages. I have a DELL 9100 with 3 Ghz HT and 1 GB RAM and ATI 256 MB Radeon video card.

Application:

MyDVD 6.x

Capture Device:

Win TV PVR 150

Description:

Launching Application/Saved Project

CD/DVD Writer:

Phillips DVD r/RW DL

Operating System:

Win XP MCE

Software Build #:

603B24A

Sorry I am unable to attach the screen shot image.

The first thing to try is reinstalling the application.  If that doesn't work, you may have to uninstall it, restart Windows and then do a new install.

If that doesn't fix it, I'd contact Sonic.

Thnaks firebird. I did try those steps and in fact have contacted Sonic support online. But no response even after 3 days! I have an I8K with XP Pro and the MyDVD (different copy bought as an upgrade to MyDVD5) is working perfectly. I wonder if this is related NSW2005 on my MCE 9100 (I have NSW 2004 on my I8K with XP Pro). We'll see if Sonic tech support replies...

Just a follow up to let everyone who may have the same problem as me-the advice to uninstall and reboot and reinstall was right with the caveat-you have to do a "clean" re-install. To do that you have to delete the following also which are NOT removed by the uninstaller-Sonic folders in Program files, Common files, application data in My Documents (this is a hidden folder) and the sonic folder in the registry (HKLM-Current user)-see the Sonic knoledge base-key words-"scripts error at start up". After you remove all these , then re-boot and then re-install. For good measure I also removed the Sonic encoders which come budled with the XP-MCE before I rebooted. To do this you go to control panel and click add remove Windows components. Hope that helps. Just for the record -Sonic support personnel are yet to reply after 8 days! I wish that Sonic had done a better job of writing a better software so that the uninstaller will remove ALL files. BTW, I did call Dell and got a re-installation CD for the Sonic LE version, just in case the My DVD deluxe refused to function. The chat person at Dell was very helpful and the CD came in 5 days-FYI.

Can you tell me if your issue is fully resolved?  I am having the same exact issue.  The clean uninstall of ALL Sonic files and subsequent clean re-install of MyDVD Studio Deluxe v6 did not fully resolve the problems.  I can use the data, copy, and audio modules but cannot burn a DVD.  It is not an issue of the DVD burner hardware.  The software does not seem to be fully loading.  Under the "help" tab within the software application, the option to check the web for updates is missing.  Sonic is clueless.  I had the issue "escalated" three days ago.  All I have gotten so far is suggestions that I can find by querying there online knowledgebase.  Any other suggestions?  I have also tried copying the software to a folder on the C: directory and installing from hard drive.  That didn't work either.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are you referring to re: NSW2004 and NSW2005?

I also have a Dell Dimension 8250 desktop running Windows XP home edition and am having NO problems whatsoever with MyDVD Deluxe Studio v6 (except it is too slow for my liking).  I specifically bought the XPS 400 with dual core technology and a whopping 2g of RAM in order to speed things up because I have a lot of DVDs to create and burn in a very short period of time.  I am SOOOO disappointed that I cannot get this issue resolved with either Dell OR Sonic.  I suspect there is some sort of conflict with Windows MCE.  I have updated the aspi through adaptec.  I have checked for hardware drivers and my burner (which was used successfully on other system with functioning MyDVD software) firmware is up-to-date.  I am running out of ideas as to what the differences could be between the two systems and why this software will not work.  The problem seems to be related to the video component of the Sonic product (e.g., I can't burn a DVD video or slideshow on new system and the OEM of what is loaded at factory for Sonic does not have the video burning capabilities).  Would appreciate ANY insight.

I am sorry you are running into problems. My issues were related to script errors and were solved by a clean re-install. NSW is Norton System Works. I have a new problem of unknown origin: that MyDVD want to close and send an error report whenever I start to burn (or create a disk image) a DVD. I will try a clean re-install again to see if this gets solved. BTW, Sonic has not done anything about my post on thier support page. Unfortunately, they don't have good support personnel unlike some other companies like Hauppage whose TV tuner card I have and they provided excellent support.

Dan

Update: The clean re-install did not solve that problem, but burning a different recorded TV movie solved the issue. I think the one I was trying to burn initially was corrupted. But, I do not believe the MCE 9100 will ever replace the stand alone DVD recorder, bec. it is too unreliable!-the machine sometimes hangs, the movie file gets corrupted and then even if it has recorded as scheduled it is a laborious process to bring the file into MyDVD(creating a DVD from within Media Center takes too long!) and create chapter points and then burn it onto a DVD disk. With the stand alone recorder, I am done in 5 minutes! It is a good gadget to get the schedules and then record any series, but I am not relying on the computer only , to get my recordings-I also set the timer on my stand alone DVD recorder for some recordings I do not want to miss! Bottom line-the MCE version of XP still has training wheels!

I have an Inspiron 9300 with all bells and whistles and just purchased MYDVD 6 and after the install, have the exact same issue.

memory allocation error - file info:path = C:\Program Files\Sonic\MyDVD\Styles\NTSC, position = 0 -1

Is it possible that those of us with newer video cards (NVIDIA GeForce Go6800) or wide aspect laptop screens are what is having the prob?

Have you had any luck resolving your issues????

Thanks!!!!!

Followed dummy's true uninstall method and it works perfect now.  The key is prob the removal from the registry.  Thanks a ton.....Good Luck!!!!!!!

Glad it worked. My new problem is transcoding any recorded TV program in any other bit rate except SP causes an error meassage-"Sonic My DVD has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". I posted it on a seperate post and alos in Sonic support but so far no solutions. I got Media creator 8 and transcoded the DVR-MS files to mpg and reduced them and then I imported them into MyDVD 6 and then burnt an iso image(Media creator has MyDVD 8-I have not yet tried to burn inside that yet). I think this problem has something to do with the trnascoding and bit rate...

I convinced the "good" people at Sonic (in sales) to send me out MyDVD Deluxe Studio 6.1 in replacement of the 6.0 since they (support) have been unable to resolve my conflicts.  The good news is, it installed fine and I was able to successfully create and burn a video DVD on my new system.  I have not tried other functionalities of the updated software yet and am praying that I don't run into further problems.  BTW, their support has still not come back to me with any suggestions despite it being "escalated" to tier 2 support!  I'm gonna leave the ticket open to see what eventually comes of it.

OK. Here's the solution-I am just really surprised that no one else seems to have this problem. The upgrade to the MyDVD 6.1 LE version you get if you click on the upgrade from within the program is MyDVD 6.0!! This is the problem in MCE-it works well with XP Pro. The only way tp get the MyDVD 6.1 version is to get it paying full price by going directly to the sonic website (not from within MyDVD LE)-you pay full price-or by clicking upgrade from within My DVD 6.0 full version (retail-I have it on my laptop). This is version 6.1-works fine, no script errors after installation and even clean unistalls the LE version without any problems. Sonic support is the WORST!!!!!!!! no support at all-they have never replied to my posts on their website-why Dell partners with them is beyond me-they used to have good support-I have had MyDVD for  years now.

But for all you MCE 2005 owners out there-either stick with the LE version that came pre-installed or buy the full version 6.1 if you want to stick with Sonic's products. My DVD 6.0 is full of errors  under MCE 2005 (under XP Pro it works great) and Sonic should really thow in 6.1 as a service pack and not expect us to pay anything for a minor upgrade-talk about greed...
