Proccesses running in task manager

How many proccesses should be running in task manager, i have a bunch.
 
Do all of these need to be running and how can I tell what does and does not need to be running.

The number depends on the system, of course. My computer currently has 40 processes running. You can get some insight into what some of them do at the Web site here. As a rule is it not necessary to fine-tune the processes that are running. You can get a more meaningful indication of whether too much is running by taking a look at the Commit/Charge value in Task Manager, as described here.

16-18 standard system (Windows) processes + antivirus, security and other applications of your choice (if any).
For more information about each process, search Google for the value from the Image Name column (Windows Task Manager -> Processes tab)

The key is not how many process is running but what resources are being used.  I especially do not agree with the site "tasklist.org" since they appear to be push their own solution, but more importantly this list is incredibly incomplete.  cmd.exe the command processor is not referenced.  The write up on java.exe is incorrect
