Clicking the link below will prompt you to open or save "View Key XP," which will give you what you need. You can click "Open," and it'll spit it right at you.

It works for me, and I have a non-retail/non-OEM version. None of those registry "finders" work for it, though.

Hey, does everyone get RCBF6-6KDMK-GD6GR-K6DP3-4C8MT or does it least have some brains?

Or you could go into the registry. It is in there also, but that Java script sure was cool, but scary.

I'd be impressed, but the key it returned is not the key for the version of XP that is on my computer.

creeper,

That works in Windows 9X, but in XP it returns a Product ID with "OEM" in it, not the 25-character Product ID that is needed.

Ticklethe88keys,
I right click on My Computer, chose properties and mine is listed right there under my name, same as the one in the Reg.

Denny,
Then I take it is the wrong number, what about the product key on the side of the tower? Isn't that the number you need to reinstall XP?

Marvin P

P.S. What is that number with the "OEM" in the middle good for?

Marvin,

Yep, the one on the chassis will do the trick for reinstallation. I was sorry to see that the Registry entry would not work for XP. I was hoping to make a new JavaScript file to extract the Product ID similar to the one on the Delltalk Tweekz for extracting the information in Windows 9X when I found the ID containing the "OEM."

The Belarc Advisor returns the "OEM" number for both Win 98 SE and XP but for 98 SE it also returns the 25-character Product ID in parentheses after it.
