I`m not sure I understand what you are saying.  Is this correct.

You want to install the Cash Register program on your machine and have it startup with Windows.

First of all, there is no default "Startup" folder in the root of  (C:\) in XP Home/Pro

Startup folder are here
1) Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder

2) Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder

Install the program and if it does not startup with Windows, find its ".exe" file and put a shortcut to it in one of the Startup folders above
