See ChrisRLG's message at the top of the Virus Information and Removal forum:

First try Spybot and Ad-Aware.  If they don't get rid of dlhelper, continue with the instructions for HijackThis and post you log in one of the suggested HijackThis forums.

Spyware is in a gray area of viruses, and, until recently antivirus software has really done little to stop this kind of infection.  Because the spyware is getting more and more agressive, more if it has the same effect as a virus, but the antivirus software still does not recognize it as such.  Thus, in addition to antivirus software, it is becoming more and more apparent that you need programs like Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy to rid yourself of these kinds of problems.  Even these programs have a difficult time keeping up with the garbage, and I'm afraid things are going to get worse before they get better.

Hi Steve,  Thanks so much for your response.  I had a heck of a time getting rid of that.  I had no idea what it was, still don't really. I had to contact McAfee and they had me download Ad-Aware and that found 16 objects!  (why didn't McAfee scan find them?!!!)  So anyway, I eventually had to download Stinger which got rid of the 16 whatevers.  Again, Thank You.  Barb

Hey Steve, How do you stay on top of this info? I didn't think this could happen because I delete e mail I don't recognize, etc. How weird is this?...When I saw that DLHelper listed in Programs, my cursor went over it and on second list same thing listed again..I thought that was different.   I looked at that a few times but I never clicked on it!!!Just left it alone.

Thanks, Barb

Steve, I downloaded and started to install SpywareBlaster.  While installing recieved Error Msg:

Run-time Error '339' Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of its dependencies not currently registered: a file is missing or invalid.  I remember reading something about if you see file missing etc. but I can't remember details.  Can you decipher above msg for me?  Thank you.  Barb

Try some of the mirror sites for Spybot.  I know little about Spywareguard .  Note that some spyware tried to make it impossible to get to the spyware sites, so you might want to try the HijackThis approach as suggested by ChrisRLG's message at the top of the Virus Information and Removal forum.

Hi Steve, I downloaded Spyblaster - seemed to go ok.  I've tried to download Spybot and then Spywareguard and I'm unable to complete.  The first had msg unable to support and the other web site not responding.  Happy coincidence, or should I be concerned?   Barb
