You can utilize Spybot Search & Destroy (free download from www.spybot.info) or the MSConfig program in windows. Please be aware that preventing a windows service from starting can ruin your machine.
To use msconfig:
Click on Start, then Run
Type: msconfig and click OK
Go to the Startup Tab
You can find out what a program is by going to:
www.windowsstartup.com and search for the name there.
