Programs for all users

I have three boys in the house who all use the new Dell.  I have admin rights.  They have limited accounts.  I have tried unsuccessfully to install a game so all users can access it.  I have tried several locations, but always with the same result.  How do I install programs so everyone can access them?

Put the program shortcuts in the C:\Documents and settings\All Users\start menu\programs folder. That should make them available to all users.

Making an Application Available to All Users in Windows XP

In order to make an application available to all users, log in as the member of  the Administrator group (Exampleuser) who installed the application.  Right-click the Start button and click on Open.  The C:\Documents and Settings\Exampleuser\Start Menu folder is displayed.  Double-click the Programs folder to open it.  Locate the folder which contains the application which is to be shared and right-click it.  Select "Cut" from the context menu.  Close the Start Menu window.

Now right-click the Start button again and choose Explore All Users.  The C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu folder is displayed.  Double-click the Programs folder to open it.  Then go to Edit|Paste.  The application folder will appear in the listing and will then be available to all users of the computer.   Kip

I moved the working shortcut to the file you specified, but, again, I get the error "you must have administrative rights to run the program".  Thanks for your time.

Thank you for your assistance.  What you directed me to do indeed moved/made accessible the program under the other users Program files, but when attempting to start the program (which has to run from a CD) the error message "You must have administrative rights on this PC to run the program" pops up. When I attempt to "open as" vs. open, I can set the program to run with one of the limited account users, but then get the error message "please ensure the CD is inserted in the CD player, which, of course, it is.  It just doesn't start.  Perplexing.

Indeed. Attribution might have been a nice touch. See this.

I had that stored as an Email for well over a year with no author indicated, so knowing how important it is to get your name out there Denny on the Dell boards, it has been corrected, with my apology.  Kip

How does kippy50/Denny suggestion differ from mine?
