Programs missing from start menu

I recently noticed that many of my programs are suddenly missing from the start menu. For example, if I click on start, all programs, and accessories, everything under "accessories," "entertainment" and "system tools" shows "empty." This means I can't access character map, calculator, disk defrag, etc.

Has this happened to anyone? What happened to all of my programs?

jbautista83,

Start, control panel, add/remove programs, add/remove Windows Componets. Click on the ones you think you need, then click on details. You can install what you need from there.

Have you used any type of registry cleaner? This is a common problem when a registry cleaner or so called PCoptimisation program has been used.
