Go to Start, Run, type in msconfig, then the Startup tab and you will see a number of running programs. Some you may not recognize are necessary, but do you recognize some that are not necessary? You may need to list them here.  Delete any that are not absolutely necessary.

When you reboot, you will get a dialog box saying you are running in a Selective Startup mode.  You can check the box to ignore this message in the future.

Here are the programs which are running in the background on my computer when I boot up.  I am not sufficently computer literate yo know which ones should be deleted and which should not.  Kindly advise me.  THANK YOU!  Macgenes

Also, "My Documents" with a file folder beside it is now displayed, along with a mailbox & two other AOL logos.  My computer is getting very slow. Help!

 

Lose the AOL junk and Adobe.

The realsched and qttask can go.  If you type the others, one at a time, into a google search you whould get some clues as to what they are and whether they are necessary or not.  Lots of these can go, I imagine.
