That why it's called Public. If you don't want it available, you can turn off sharing or just don' put anything in the Public sub-folders.

Maybe I was not clear; I want to declare another folder with its subfolders (where I have all my stuff) a PUBLIC so I can access it from the network and disregard the original Vista public folder (if necessary). I don't keep all my stuff in the C partition, but in my D partition. The question is "how to declare another folder in D partition as PUBLIC?

Kind regards

You can allow any folder to be shared, Go to Sharing in Properties for the folder.

Of course I set my folder of interest as shared and I gave all the possible permissions and privileges, but no avail. It looks that only the folder PUBLIC may be accessed by other non vista computer. I don't know which are the special characteristics of this folder. I would like to have the possibility to access the other folders and it seems that sharing them is not enough.

One thing you may need to do if you already have not is to add your Workgroup name to your Internet Options Trusted Sites.

Control Panel

Internet Options

Click on the green Trusted Sites check mark

Click on Sites Button

If it is checked, uncheck Require server verification......

Add the name of your Workgroup

Close

Sorry for late reply. I tried the suggestion, but without any success. I tried also the Help that suggest to go to computer management, utility, shared folders, sharing and suggest to right click on the name of the shared folder in order to set privileges ot to create a new one, but the pop up window does not show "properties" or "New folder"

Any suggestion appreciated

G Paolo

I'm having better luck sharing folders within my home network when I disable Windows Firewall on the PC running Vista.
