question about chat remove?

Hi all   I have windows chat live and when i first sign on it comes up, the chat
box so I send it down to the corner of the moniter by the clock and mark it
as if i am busy.   my problem is I really dont use it at all. and i do have windows
live. Is there some way I can disable this? so it doesnt come up after I turn on
computer? it is just a waste. I thought I could delete it but windows says in
Add/Remove that it needs to be here for other things to run   so can I disable
it?  If so How?   Thank you      P.S  I have asked this question 2 other times
and no one got back to me one was last week.  I am just wondering if all the
forum people are mad at me because of the day I had a virus and a forum
person was kind enough to help me but it seemed like maybe i didnt aprieciate
it?   Which isnt true I did and my comp. is running FANTASTIC

If you mean Windows Messenger, go to its Tools/Options/General and uncheck Signing Automatically when Windows start option. If you are refering to some other chat program, there should be a similar setting. Val

i am talking about the little box that comes up and you can text people if you have email phone
or you can chat with people its a chat box where you chat back and forth.  well i dont want it
to work right now i dont do online chatting anymore and i can keep it at bay for a while by
cking a box that say's i am off line that lets people who have this chat too that i am not on line
so no one will try to chat.  i was wondering were i can go into my computer to dissable it.

It would help if you could give the exact name of the program. There are lots of chat applications out there. But, as I wrote before, almost any of such programs should have a setting in its configuration menu to disable launching at Windows boot time. Val

Just to be sure, are you referring to Windows Live Messenger, which looks like: http://www.rapidnet.com/~valmanes/WindowsLiveMessenger.jpg If so, go back to my first reply which explained how to turn it off. If it's another program, the same technique should apply, you'll just find it slightly differently. Don't go into the registry if you don't know what you're doing. That's a good way to make your system unstable, if not unbootable. Val

another thing you can try if you dont want windows messenger either is to look in your program files look for windows messenger and delete the whole thing. i never used it either and its gone from both of my computers and nothing bad happened. it wont be listed in your add/remove programs. hope this helps you.
