Quick Question

Hi everyone. I want to get Vista soon but I have a problem. I would like to get the 64-bit version but I don't know if my cpu supports 64 bit. Yes I really don't know :P

Processor x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2992 Mhz
Processor x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2992 Mhz
Thats what I have for my processor. Its a Pentium D 3ghz.

Thank you for the quick reply. Oh and does anyone recommend against not getting the 64 bit version? I was thinking of getting the 64 bit Vista because it would be more future proof. But from what I heard 64 bit apps have a lack of support. Like in XP.
Cool so my CPU does support it. I'm pretty sure the Dell XPS 400 mobo has 64 bit support. Can any 400 owners confirm that?

Running a CPU identifier can show you if EM64T (this is what to look for) is available among the processor instruction sets. Intel has such a thing:

I couldn't say if your BIOS needs to accomodate it, too, or not. If you search the 'net for your specific model computer and XP Professional (or Pro) x64 and find them together that might prove it can be done.

It's not only a lack of support (drivers) but also the lack of sufficent programming to warrant the move over to a 64bit OS right now.
