Quickset does not start

Question

Hi

We have been having problems with one user of ours. He runs a Dell Lattitude 630 with WinXP.

Whenever the laptop loads he receives an error that Quickset.exe cannot load:

"The exception unknown software exception (0xc06d007e) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812a5b."

Has anyone encountered this problem before?!

Re-installing/ repairing/ uninstall- re-install didnt work :(

Please help!!! We are kinda desperate!

Go to the dell support site and download the latest version of quickset for your computer.  Then reinstall quickset and see if the problem goes away.

Hi Guys,

I have the same problem. When I start QuickSet, it displays "The exception unknown software exception (0xc06d007e) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812a5b." In the event viewer I see

"Faulting application quickset.exe, version 8.3.11.0, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x00012aeb." I downloaded the new version of QuickSet, uninstalled the old one and installed the new version twice with restarts. No effect. The error message still exists. Any ideas?

we are running XP SP2. I have googled, yahooed, etc and havent found a thing that worked!

Honestly, no, I'm not sure whats causing it. I haven't dealt with QuickSet very much, other than knowing it includes some notebook features that make it better to have it and not use it, than to leave it off the system.

If you haven't already tried it, uninstall QuickSet, reboot the computer, then install the latest version. Perhaps having the system create a dump file the next time you get it to error will allow a check on what it was actually doing when it failed.

Actually I do not get the indications on the screen when I increase or decrease the volume, when I change the screen brightness and when I press Fn+F8 in order to connect to projector. I thought that QuickSet is responsible for that. Am I right?

Fn+F8 is not controlled by QuickSet, although I believe the onscreen indications of the other two are.

I actually had an instance yesterday where the volume bar was behind the current window instead of on top of it, so that might be what you ran into. I'm using Vista.

No, even if I close all windows, OnScreen indications do not appear. Latest version of QuickSet did not help.

Hi

Currently I am not at the office and therefore cannot try it, but I did think of something.

Larry- does Quickset leave behind (as many programs do) registry keys and other files after being uninstalled?

If I (or anyone here with the same issue) had to fully un-install Quickset including registry and left overs files and do a complete reinstallation would you think this might solve the issue?

I know Microsoft have their Windows Install Clean up util (search their website). I am wondering if this might be of some help unless anyone else has any program they can recommend....??

Honestly, I'm not sure if that would work or not, but it sounds worth having at least one person try it (assuming they don't mind the extra work involved).

QuickSet does not appear in the list of the clean up utility.
