QuickTime and MOV files

Is there such a way or other program that just strictly plays MOV files and other "Apple" file formats? QuickTime is OK...I just don't like how it always associates itself with Windows files also..such as MIDI, WAV, MP3, etc (and even some picture files). I guess it's no big deal, but I'm just wondering. I know there is a way to set what you would associate with QuickTime...but I don't exactly like this either.

Thanks!!

I think you're mistaken hummingbird.  I have quicktime player and have denied it the right to associate itself with all other files.  It got to the point where I just clicked "Don't ask me this again" and clicked no.  Everything has been fine since.  Wrong again on the iPod topic as well.  My roommate has an iPod that works flawlessly with his Compaq laptop and Apple's Music Store.

03codyn,

No, if you use Quicktime you MUST have it associate all your other files with the Quicktime player. There is no other way.

If you are a PC user you cannot buy an IPOD, you cannot download from Apple's music store and most foremost YOU CANNOT view Apple's .MOV files!

Just buy a MAC.

alevasseur14,

Learn something new everyday. Cool. Thanks for the correction. ;-)

Presently, I am into OGG VORBIS files right now. The sound quality is better then MP3s I am told.

I found out last night that none of my players could play OGG VORBIS!:-O QuickTime is capable I read but I need to install a plug in. But then again I wanted Itunes to play them. SO far no go.

I later installed Winamp based on my need to hear an OGG file now.

Winamp includes being able to play OGG files. And yeah,,, it claimed all my other sound files before I had a chance to say, hey,,,wait a second!! LOL Gee, quicktime does not even do that.

After which I opened Winamps options and made my choices, I now have Winamp to only play my streaming OGG vorbis files and OGG files.

Later that night I found other players that will play OGG files but they are slim.

Thanks,
ghb

03codyn, I also don't like the way Quicktime tries to take over everything.  There's an alternative to using Quicktime for playing MOV, etc files and it's free.
