QuickTime and RealPlayer on Windows Vista?

I am very interested in getting some feedback from folks who are using Quicktime and RealPlayer (especially QuickTime) under the Vista Operating System.  I want to know what types of error messages are occurring and if the problems are frequent.

I understand Apple is advertising "additional support" for QuickTime under Windows Vista.  However, it doesn't appear to be "officially" recognized or compatible yet.  I really would like to have QuickTime and RealPlayer back because I used them in Win XP for some of my videos.

However, I DO NOT want to introduce these 2 programs to Win Vista if error messages are going to be expected.  Again, can anyone give some feedback or any suggestions?  I have read a little bit about QuickTime online but again I'd like the personal perspective of individual users.  I appreciate any responses (suggestions or advice).

I have real player installed and it works fine no glitches or error messages.

I used Quicktime several times after I installed Vista and it worked fine. On the download it says 200/XP but it does work with Vista.

I tried installing the free Real player and after the install I got the blue screen of death every time I launched IE. When I talked to Real they said for some it works but it is not 100% compatible with Vista. So. I uninstalled Real Player and IE works fine. I have stayed away from installing Quick Time since Apple does not say it is Vista compatible.

Quicktime (stand-alone player) has worked fine for me on Vista Home Premium. I don't use IE so I have no clue how it works inside the IE 7 browser. I don't use Real Player anymore because it has a long history of being spyware (claims backed up by the constant ZoneAlarm alerts under XP) so I have no clue about how that works under Vista.

I have latest Vista compatible version 5.3.2.2361 of spy sweeper. How did you disable spy sweeper? Before you installed Real Player, did you right click on spy sweeper icon in task bar and click shut down or did you go to options and not have spy sweeper launch at windows start up and then install Real Player?

From looking at these replies, plus other posts on the net, it seems support for Quicktime and RealPlayer in Windows Vista is still limited.  However, it appears QuickTime is ahead of RealPlayer in the game of becoming friends with Windows Vista.

Vista has been on the retail market now for 2 1/2 months.  It's a shame that these players were not fully supported at the launch date (given their popularity) as well as the length of time Vista was in the beta stage.  I've got some videos that don't play in Windows Media Player so these other players are important.

I guess we all just have to be patient while we wait for "full" support in Vista.  Right now though, it does seem there is better luck trying QuickTime in Vista versus RealPlayer.

Thanks for your suggestion to shut off Spy Sweeper before installing Real Player, launch Real Player and then reboot with Spy Sweeper started. I would have never thought of that. I did what you recommended and it worked and now Real Player is installed and works. Some radio Web sites require Real Player only so this solved that problem until Real gets their act together. Also sent a trouble ticket to Webroot Spy Sweeper to see if they can do anything with their product to resolve Real Player compatibility.

I can't even install realplayer. It won't decompress properly. This has happened with 3 different versions of the file. It's all rubbish!
