Ran Partition Magic - Now System Won't Boot Up

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 with XP home OS .  I ran Partition Magic to resize  the partition, but when it when it finished and attempted to reboot, I think it messed up my boot record.  Upon booting it says C:\Windows\ NDETECT failed, and attempts over and over to reboot.

Any ideas on how I can remedy this?  Thanks.

I believe NDETECT is part of Norton's Internet Security Suite that looks for updates on the net. Try booting in Safe Mode and turn off Norton's automatic updating. Then boot normally and reinstall Norton.

I think you mean the filename is NTDETECT.COM

It is a nessessary Windows system file located on C:\ used at boot time.

I would first try rebooting the system from the Partition Magic CD and check recheck your partitions.  It sounds like you may have resized C:\ in the wrong direction or your primary boot partition is wrong. I think PM may also have a master boot record (MBR) repair or checking tool.

I tried to select safe mode start up  but my keyboard is totally inoperable to where I cannot change any start up options.

First, you need to clarify if the error relates to NDETECT (Norton) or NTDETECT (Windows) as joat77 suggested.

If you're using a USB keyboard, you may have to go into BIOS and make sure that 'legacy USB' support is enabled, if that option exists. And try connecting the keyboard to all the USB ports. Usually, only one USB port is functional before the OS loads. Otherwise, try borrowing a PS/2 keyboard until you can resolve the issues.
