Re: Dumping Win 7 and reverting back to XP

I have an old XP machine & bought a new one that came with 64-bit Win 8 (not Pro).  Is there a way to install/run XP apps under Win 8?  I've heard about a Pro-only solution (HYPER-V), but that won't work.  I've also heard of some other MS & 3rd Party  solutions, but I don't know what would work best & I'd like to be comfortable before trying them.  If not, should I go with a 32-bit Win 7 or 8?  TIA.

Most apps will work, but some need workarounds, and some will not work.  What programs are you worried about?

Hyper-V is a great solution, but there are alternatives.  VirtualBox and VMware are other "virtualization" solutions that allow you to run an OS as a "virtual machine" inside of another "host" OS.  To do this, you will need an unused and valid XP license to run it in a VM - and you will need to install it yourself.

Purchasing your own Windows 7 license is another alternative ... IF you just cannot get your programs working.
