Re-installed O.S - cant run Windows Update
The hard disk on my Dimension 8400 recently ate itself. I replaced it -- it was out of warranty by about a 2 weeks :-( -- and re-installed windows xp from a previous Dell disk. I out in the serial from the sticker on the side of my machine but when I try Windows Update my machine fails Windows Genuine Validation!
Can someone tell me where I have gone wrong and how I can correct it???
Cheers

See if working through the procedure here can resolve the problem.

It is nothing you did wrong. The recent problems with the Windows Genuine Advantage program are anomalies.
