Re-installing Windows XP

When should I go ahead and re-install XP.  While working with Dell tech support on my DVD/RW issues, I now have  some software issues.  When I play a CD using Music Match Jukebox, I get no sound. When I tried to un-install it I got a message that the files could not be found.  I tried downloading and installing the V10 upgrade for Windows Media Player, and for some reason it failed to completely install. I don't know whether I have it or not. Now when I start my DIMM, I get a message that Adobe Acrobat V5  is trying to install, when I click no, it goes ahead and begins to install.  Should I go ahead and re-install Windows XP?  I am to the point to where I have doubts about the knowledge level of the Dell support people who I have spoke with. As my computer is relatively new, (Jan 15, 05) there are not a lot of files that I would have to back up to re-install after the Windows re-installation. Also, it came with many programs that I don't need.  I would very much appreciate some advice regarding this.

Thanks,

Ol' Fred

Check out the following.

As your computer was shipped after 7.15.04 the you have the Dell's PC Restore utility on the hard drive, that should restore the system to factory condition.

Power the computer on.

When the black screen with the Dell Logo in the top blue bar appears,  press and hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard, then press the F11 key, then release them both at the same time.   The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window appears.

NOTE: Only press the keys one time, if you press them more than once you will receive a keyboard error and will have to start the process over.
Click the Restore button. A caution message appears advising that all data will be lost.
Click the Confirm button. The progress window appears. When the restore is complete the message "The system recovery process was  successful"
appears
.
Click the Finish button. The computer should restart.
