Really slow computer

Question

I just bought a Dell Dimension 2400 (from the TV ads) and from day one taking it out of the box it has been REALLY slow booting up and getting into programs of any kind. I try to use it for the internet and the slowness is SO unbelieveable. I have an HP that is so old and it runs circles around this new Dell which is only a few months old. The only add ons that I put on it from the factory was a dvd player and dvd burner and of course the 3.5 floppy. It has a 2.8 Ghz processer which I thought would be so much faster than this HP I have. Can anyone tell me why this thing is SO slow. Thanks.

How much ram do you have on your system ?

I have had a 2400 since last Christmas(03) and it is fine with the high speed.I do have the spyware and anti virus and it has been fine..keep trying..good luck RH

Hi, My problem is so much yours that I had to reply. I have just bought a dimension 5000 p4 3.00 ghz processor and I can't understand why it runs so slow. To try and access web pages is like watching paint dry, its torture! Like you my old system was much faster even though it was over 3 years old. Have you found out the problem?

i too have a new dimension 5000 with painfully slow internet connection. It has just taken me two hours to register with the forum and post this message. did you manage to get yours fixed
