recovery Cd

I have a dim 3000 and no recovery Cd. The blue card referred me to use the windows system restore. Which gets corrupted by viruses. there is the ghost image on the hard drive but I want a hard copy to reinstall from. Am I going to be able to burn a restore Cd or do I have to pay even more for something I already bought?

Please see the following link.

Depending on the date on your computer this may be what you need.
I would go ahead and make the Cd. then get it scanned for virus before using it. The computer may have viruses but the image made with the progam may be clean.

good luck.

lostdata50,

Request a reinstallation CD from Dell using the links provided in this post. You may have to try several contacts before you find one who will provide the CDs, many will try to convince you that the PC Restore capability eliminates the need for the CD which is simply not true.

The link http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?dn=FA1091713 is for Dimension and Inspiron shipped before July 15, 2005.  After that you're out of luck.  My new Inspiron doesn't offer link (or short cut) to Dell OS Recovery DC in Start\All Program\Dell Accessories.

I have no idea why Dell doesn't ship CDs with its system, and provide no other way to reinstall, not only its OS but also drivers and programs that comes with the system such as PowerDVD, SONIC.

I could never understand it myself. I figure if I purchased a pc I should get the cd for the software as well. this was also the case with Compaq and HP. they all did it at the same time. After purchasing the unit you had to phone the help desk and order a CD with the OS for 10 dollars. I figured it always cost more that way.
