Recovery XP - File Missing

1. Added Zip Drive USB and system crashed. I do not have SP1. Did it once, crashed my system.

2. Could not recover, could not even get into system

3. Blue screen then appeared.

4. Got by that by using XP CD

5. Next Windows setup loads files

6. I select Setup Windows

7. Next I select R to repair windows

8. Says Upgrade already tried do you want to try again, I say Yes

9. Copies files.

10. Then initializes Win xp configuation.

 11. Next computer will reboot.

 12. At the point of installing windows, it says: the file 'asms' on windows xp cd is needed.
In the copy files from box it says: GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386

  13. I changed it to the D: where the cd is and it did not find it.

 14. I changed it to C:, no luck

15, I had to cancel out and now it will not complete the recovery setup and I am back where I started.  NO COMPUTER

One note I can work from SAFE, but can't do much from there anyway.

Desperate, Any ideas????  Need my computer.

If I reinstall win xp, I will lose all my settings. It said I will lose what is in MY Documents, which would really hurt.
