Recycle Bin Freeze-Help!!!

Hi,
After spending three hours dealing with Tech support I need help. I have a Dimension desktop with Vista and whenever I delete a file (Word, Video, Itune song) my system freezes or hangs. I have to go to task manager and cancel it. If I put it in Safe Mode I can delete without a problem. It was found that I have a number of spyware cookies that seems to be increasing my CPU's to 80-90 %. I was told that I have a virus and I have to repartition my hard drive and reinstall Vista. This is the second time I am doing this and it is verty time consuming to reinstall programs. I believe this is a Vista issue and not due to a virus. Has anyone had similar problems? Help!

            Thanks,  Rocky49

Do you have an up to date Antivirus program and an up to date Antivirus data file?  And do you have an up to date Spyware program and data file?  If you do, run a full antivirus scan and then run a full spyware scan.  If nothing is found you probably don't have a virus or spyware problem.

If you display the Task Manager Processes, you should be able to see what, if any, is using the CPU time.

it is likely a virus/spyware issue and not vista's fault especially since you are already aware that you have a pretty major spyware issue.

Go to this forum http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hijack  and read the RED link at the top and then post your log on that forum along with what you have stated here, also post the Model of Dell you have and the OS Version.

This will tell you for sure if you have a virus or malware, no more speculation.

Hi, I have a Dimension E521 with Vista. I have removed spyware using Trend Micro-cillan Internet Security, Superantispyware and AVG Anti-spyware. The main problem is that I can't delete anything without freezing or hanging the program. I am forced to go to Task Manager to close out operation. If I had twenty file for deletion this would take forever. I even tried delete and shift but it still hangs up. Is my only solution to repartition like Delll techs say?

Is the system fully patched using windows updates?

This slow file move, copy, delete, was an early bug in vista and was solved with a patch.

If it is fully patched go to the hijack forum, what do you have to lose.

I just sent a request to Microsoft for a patch. It appears that my problem has been experience by many. I'll let you know the results.

Hello,

I installed the patch this morning from Microsoft and it still hangs when I delete!

I'll try the Hi-jack approach now.

Hi,

I tried to install HIjack but I could not click on Accept button for program. The program seems to be running but there is no log only exe file in hijack folder. This seems to be hanging like everything else. I HATE VISTA!!!

PS I shut off all antivirus and spyware programs first

Hello,

I don't think Hijack can be used with Vista. Is my only alternative is to reinstall Vista? I did not have problems deleting initially when I bought Dimension E521 last April with Vista.

Thanks,  Rocky49
