Reformat c:\ and reinstall Win ME?
Hi,
I have a 3 yr old Dell Inspiron 8000 which has become quite slow and unstable due to too many different software installs. A combination of uninstalls/remove programs/nortan clean sweep dont seem to work properly and often crash.
I now have a new desktop machine, and want to use the laptop as cleanly as possible.
I think the time has come to reformat the c:\ drive and reinstall Win ME - I have the dell "Reinstallation CD" and have backed up my data files - but am not sure how to go about this? can anyone give some advice?
Someone told me that a reformat of c:\ means I probably lose the CD drivers so will struggle to reinstall from the CD?
Thanks,
Richard

Use the emergency boot diskette you made from Start|Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs|Startup Disk tab (or download on from here). Boot with that floppy in the drive and at the DOS prompt type format c: and . When the formatting is complete, set your CD-ROM drive as the first boot device in BIOS then follow the instructions here.

The Windows ME CD is Boot-able...
To have it boot you need to enter your system's BIOS (Follow instructions at the bootup screen) and change your boot device settings to 1. CD-ROM ----- 2. Hard-Disk .
Then startup your computer with the Windows CD-ROM in your IDE drive.
Press any key when required, and you're on the go.
Once installed, your can restore your BIOS to boot directly from the hard disk.
Using the Boot-able CD with an SCSI drive requires more hassle.
