Reformatted Drive - COMPUTER RUNNING SLOW - Problems Problems!!!!!
Hi,
Hope someone can help me. I have a Dell Dimension 4300 using Windows ME. I have just formatted my hard drive but now my computer is running really, really slow e.g. it takes about 10 minutes from turning on to reach the desktop and about 3 minutes to open a program.
Have done defrag, scandisk, virus check but still no good.
Went on the hard drive message board and got a message it would be better to put my question on here.
Any suggestions please

Sending a link back to one of the home pages doesnt help lol
Im just about to reformat my harddrive and looking for last minute info b4 I go mental, not promising when you find a link that goes to the home pages

Another idea, make sure your IDE devices are set to DMA (in device manager).

, although i have already formatted and sorted mine out I did not need it. But thanks anyway. I dont know why you have so many problems with your Dimention 4300 slowing down, but maybe if you have the time to reformat it fully and go through the full procedures. Making sure that all viruses with the virus softwares you have are deleted and removed from your harddrive first. And that you dissable Norton softwares before continuing. Maybe their is something that wasnt removed or shutdown before you did it. I dont know. I have installed the new Nortton 2003 version since my reformat. Although i have not had any problems with my 4300 yet, Norton System Works 2003 does slow down the pc shut down, but in my case thats only 3-5 seconds longer.
Maybe someone can help you if they come across this message list.
