To format and partition a hard drive using the XP operating system.
Then you must reinstall XP using these instructions for a clean
installation. Go Here.

I do not want to simply reinstall it, I want to completely remove it and go back to Windows 2000 Professional.
My main concern? Windows XP DOES NOT RUN 3D Studio MAX, and for those in the know, that program is NOT cheap, and I am do NOT want to be missing out on it after spending all that money.
Therefore, I need to format my hard drive and get back on to Windows 2000. And for some reason, my computer (after chaning BIOS boot settings) is not booting from my Windows XP CD....
Thanks for your help.

If you can boot from the XP install CD, you can use the partition and format options within XP Setup to delete the partition XP is on, then format the partition (or partitions) created, and begin the clean installation. After booting from the XP install CD, then agreeing to the license agreement (and possibly inserting qulaifying media for upgrade verification), you will see a screen similar to this:
Highlight the partition that XP is installed and choose D to delete partition, and confirm partition delete. Make sure you have backed up all important files because they will be eliminated at this point. Next choose C to create a partition in the unpartitioned space. You can create several partitions if you wish or create just one partition. Next you will be given a choice to format the partition. Do that, and proceed with the install.
Kiedyk,
If you can boot from your Windows 2000 installation CD, the instructions are almost identical to the above. Just delete the partiton XP is on, partition the now unpartitioned space, etc.
