FWIW, when I get an error that I don't know what it is, such as your hive file, I do a search using
www.google.com and can usually find the info or fix. That is how I found your fix.
Dell Tech Support found the failed hard drive. I'm disappointed that a Dell Moderator was so quick to tell me it was a software problem and not covered under 4-year at home warranty. I wasted much time with software recovery before checking hard drive. I declined the hard drive replacement offer and PC is packed up to be returned.

m123,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
No, home service supports the replacement of failed hardware components. It does not cover software troubleshooting and repair.

Thanks. I read that website and the sentence below was included in the troubleshooting and was hoping it would be covered under Dell's home warranty.
"The registry files may have been corrupted because of hard disk corruption or some other hardware problem.

m123,
Now you can contact tech support line and report this failure. Parts will be sent out and a tech will be dispatched to replace the failing drive.
