Registry configuration error

You'll have to change the boot order sequence in the computers BIOS (system setup) to set the cd-rom to be first.

I have tried both the delete key and the F12 key, but nothing happens.,  What does happen is the Microsoft AWindows Millenium StartUP Menus appears with the following choice:

 

1.  Normal  (get the error about the registry configuration

2.  Logged (\BOOTLOG.TXT)   haven't tried this

3.  Safe Mode  (doesn't work)

4.  SAtep-by-step confimration   (I haven't tried this)

 

Any ideas where to go from here?  Thank you.

OK.  I got into SetUp and changed the CDROM to 1st.  I get the DOS prompt & type in delldiag.

 

The Dell Diagnostics Menu appears & gives me 2 choices

 

[1]  Dell Dimension 32-Bit Diagnostics

2]  Exit

 

I type in 1 and it tells me it is an invalid directory.  I get the same results with 2.  Any ideas?

Here is a section of that text that describes what you must do to run it:

 

Turn on your printer if one is attached, and make sure it is online. Also, you must create a copy of the Dell Diagnostics on diskette. 

2. Enter the System Setup program by restarting the computer and pressing when prompted.
   
   
3. Confirm that all ports are enabled, and make sure that the Boot Sequence option is set to CD-ROM First.
   
   
5. Place the Dell ResourceCD in the CD-ROM drive, and press to restart the system.
   
   
6. At the prompt, select the option to run the Dell Diagnostics.
   
   
7. Insert a blank diskette in Drive A.
   
   
   NOTE: Make sure that there is no data on the diskette that you want to keep. The diskette creation process will destroy any data on the diskette.

    

8. At the prompt, select the option for the 16-bit Dell Diagnostics, and type
9. y to continue.
   
   The Dell Diagnostics diskette is created from the Dell Resource CD.
   
   
10. Restart the computer, enter the System Setup program, change the Boot Sequence option to Diskette First, and press to reboot the system.
    
    Your computer boots from the Dell Diagnostics diskette in drive A., and the Dell Diagnostics automatically loads.

Perform the following steps to start the diagnostics:

3. Enter System Setup by restarting your system and pressing when prompted. (for the 4100, press the "Delete" key to enter the System Setup)
   
   
4. Confirm that all ports are enabled. Also, make sure that Boot Sequence is set to IDE CD-ROM Device.
   
   
5. Place your Dell Diagnostics diskette in the "A" drive, and press to restart the system.
   
   
6. At the MS-DOS prompt, type delldiag and press .
   

When you start the diagnostics, the Dell logo screen appears, followed by a message telling you that the diagnostics is loading.

After the diagnostics loads, the Diagnostics Menu appears. The menu allows you to run all or specific diagnostic tests or to exit to the MS-DOS prompt.

For a quick check of your system, select the Run Quick Tests option. This option runs only the subtests that do not require user interaction and that do not take a long time to run. Dell recommends that you choose this option first to increase the odds of tracing the source of the problem quickly. For a thorough check of your system, select the Run All Tests option. To check a particular area of your system, select the Run Specific Tests option.

To select an option from this menu, highlight the option and press , or press the key that corresponds to the highlighted letter in the option you choose.
