registry problems

While trying to find ways to speed up my computer I found a site that would check my registry for problems FREE! It is Uniblue Registry Booster. It told me I had several hundred problems with my registry but will only fix 15 of them free then costs about $30.
1. Should I worry about fixing these problems and will it speed up my computer?
2. I have always been warned away from messing with the registry so is this safe?
3. Are there any free programs that will do this safely?

Standard advice: Stay away from registry cleaners. And stay away from any program that scans your PC for "free" then offers to fix it for a price.

Deleting dead entries from your registry is unlikely to speed up your PC. These entries are harmless, and take up very little space.

Take Joe's advice. The 'problems' encountered by the registry checker are likely entries left behind by uninstalled software, etc are not causing any harm to your PC.
