Registry restore

Hello,

I have a little problem in the Add/Remove Program in Windows Vista; there are too much "programs" in the list (some are duplicated, some are settings), and some programs cannot be uninstalled (the Uninstall button does not appear on the menu bar).

I think the reason of my problem is that I've messed up my Windows Vista registry since I used a bad registry cleaner.

I cannot do a system restore because I did the registry scan too long ago.

Does anyone has a solution to my problem or a way to restore the registry?

Thanks in advance,

Charles

Spect,

If I read your post correctly, you're saying that you have no restore points prior to running the registry cleaner.  If that's the case, I'm afraid you're sunk.  You might want to take a look at this Microsoft article regarding backup and restore of the registry in Windows XP and Vista.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

You can try this manual method, but it sounds like you have no "clean" restore point to utilize.  You probably need to backup your data, restore the factory image and start all over again.  Heck, I had to do that just to be able to access this new forum.

Information on restoring the Factory Image is here:  http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=3E48AE3870775D64E040A68F5B2877D4&journalid=5C72154B5C1EFEB6E040AE0AB7E12573&Query=&SystemID=&ServiceTag=&contenttype=28792~7~262222&os=-1&component=-1&lang=-1&doclang=en&toggle=false&dl=

Hope this info helps.

Tony

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that (unfortunately)...
